I climbed Mt. Usuki from Sekisuikei Campsite!
I climbed the round-trip course from Sekisuikei Campsite to Mt. Usuki. We will tell you about the mountain trail and a report from the summit!
[What is Mt. Usuki? ]
It is located in KameyamaCity Mie Prefecture, at the southern end of the Suzuka Mountain Range, and rises alongside Mt. Usukigatake (697m), known as the 7th Mount of Kameyama. The altitude is 630m, but at the top you can enjoy a spectacular view that gives you a sense of altitude. The ``Usu Rock/Kine Rock'' that greets you at the top of the mountain is also a highlight! The mountain trail has some steep spots, narrow cliff paths, and some places where you have to climb over rocky areas. If you are planning to climb a mountain, please check the website and make your plans in advance.
AM6:55 Start climbing from Sekisuikei campsite
7:00 AM Arrive at parking lot
There is a parking lot available for climbing. You can also use the parking lot next to the Sekisuikei campsite for climbing, but if the parking lot is full, please use this parking lot. By the way, the gentle mountain in the center of the photo is Mt. Usuki.
7:05 AM Arrive at the bungalow
There is a toilet near the bungalow. There are no restrooms along the trail up Mt. Usuki, so it's a good idea to take a restroom break here. You can also find a Sekisuikei guide map here. You can check out the famous spots in Sekisuikei!
7:10 AM Onigaga trail entrance
- "Note! 》
- Currently, this mountain trail to Onigagaa is closed to traffic due to dangerous spots.
- If you are planning to climb Onigaga, please use the Funaishi trailhead, which is about a 10-minute walk from here.
AM7:15 Mt. Usuki trailhead
- 《Danger of bear infestation》
- There are reports of bear sightings. When climbing, please take precautions such as wearing a bear bell and be very careful. If you have any sightings or other information, please contact us below.
- KameyamaCity Industry and Environment Department Biodiversity and Animal Damage Control Office
- TEL: 0595-96-8588
The path immediately after climbing from the trailhead is thick with ferns and knee-high trees. Long pants seem to be the best attire.
7:20 AM Walk along the narrow river.
7:30 AM The slope gradually becomes steeper from here.
7:40 AM Arrive at an altitude of approximately 400m. Even the view from here feels quite high.
7:45 AM: The rocks were so rough that I had to climb up.
8:00 AM: Mt. Kamagatake and Mt. Nyudogatake, which are certified as Suzuka Seven Mountains, and field climbing, which is certified as one of Kameyama's 7 mountain peaks, have clearly appeared.
8:05 AM Continue climbing.
8:10 AM Arrive at Usuiwa/Kineiwa and come face to face with the big rocks!
There's only a little more to go from here to the top of the mountain! The ground is smooth sand, so be careful not to slip on sunny days.
8:20 AM Arrive at the summit!
You can see the Shin-Meishin Expressway, the town of Kameyama, and even Ise Bay on clear days. (Unfortunately, the weather that day was cloudy...) By the way, we were able to climb to the top of the mountain in about an hour by following the directions given at the entrance to the mountain trail!
9:30 AM: Arrive at Sekisuikei Campsite along the same route we took on the climb. We had a delicious breakfast!
There were some steep downhills, so I had a hard time descending the mountain. Along the way, there were many narrow paths near cliffs and slippery spots with gravel and dead leaves. If you feel uneasy about your physical strength, don't try to climb up the mountain; instead, go back the way you came.
