Ishiyakushi's Kamazakura
Ishiyakushi's Kamazakura

There are three designated cherry blossom trees, and they are located in the Ueno area, about 1 km away from Ishiyakushi Oki Shrine.
It appears to be a variety of Yamazakura, and the flowers are large, white to pale pink, with five single petals, approximately 5 cm in diameter, and are spectacular when in bloom.
There is a legend that this tree became this tree from a branch that Minamoto no Noriyori stuck in the ground when he was hunting down the Heike clan, but if true, the tree would be over 800 years old.
The trunk of each tree is divided into several branches from the base, and the height of the tree is approximately 5 m.
It was designated as a prefectural natural monument on August 10, 1939 (S14).
