This temple is depicted in Hiroshige's map of Ishiyakushiji-juku. The name of the post station, Ishiyakushi, was taken from the name of this temple.
The principal image is a statue of Yakushi Nyorai, which is said to have been carved into stone by Kobo Daishi with his nails. It is a famous temple that the feudal lords of Sankin-Kotai always visited.
The stone Buddha is a cultural property designated by the city.
