Fuu is a deciduous tree belonging to the Witch Hazel family.It is not native to Japan, but is mainly distributed in Taiwan and southwestern China, where it grows to a height of about 30 meters.
Hirokyu Nishimura (1816-1889), who also wrote books on natural history, was running a money exchange business in Aika, oka during the TakiTown period, and grew nearly 2,000 species of plants on his residential property. is one of the trees in his botanical garden that commemorates him.
The tree is approximately 18m tall, and its crown can be seen above the town's houses even from a distance. The resin obtained from the tree can be used for medicinal purposes.
It was designated as a prefectural natural monument on November 18, 1937 (S12).
