It was built within a 300m square area at the tip of a hill over 110m above sea level, with the Sakauchi River flowing at the east foot, the Yazu River at the north foot, and deep valleys surrounding the south and west foot, making it a natural fortress. forming the earth.
The castle's territory is centered around the Honmaru, with Oteguchi to the north and Atsuguchi to the south, Nishinomaru to the west, Ninomaru, Onato, Baba, etc. to the east, with moats and plateaus remaining in many places.
The main castle was built during the Oei era by Mitsumasa Kitabatake, the governor of Ise Province, and his younger brother Kenmasa entered the castle, and his descendants called it ``Okochi Gosho'' for generations.
In August 1569, Kitabatake Tomonori's army and Oda Nobunaga's army fought against each other over the main castle, and Kitabatake's army withstood a 50-day battle at the castle, before eventually making peace.
As a result of this great battle, the main castle was hailed as an impregnable stronghold, but it was demolished by Nobunaga's second son, Nobuo Kitabatake, in 1575.
