The only existing hermitage among the five Basho hermitages.

This is the residence of Basho's disciple Hattori Doyoshi, and one of Basho's five hermitages. It is a typical hermitage from the Edo period that has been preserved in its original form. This is the place where Basho's disciples from Iga, including Doyoshi, held haiku sessions, and Basho often visited here when he returned home.

It came to be called Minomushi-an after the haiku ``Come to Kusa no Hermitage to hear the sound of the insects.'' It is the only one of the Basho Goan temples that still exists, and the garden is fully equipped with a tea room.
