It is a mountain climbing spot that has many repeat visitors, ranging from mountains that even beginners can easily try to mountains that are addictive for experienced climbers! Among them, the most popular is Mt.Gozaisho. This time, we will introduce the state of Mt. Mt.Gozaisho in winter with beautiful frost-covered trees!

Mt.Gozaisho (altitude 1212m)

It stands on the border between Komono Town, Mie District, KomonoTown, and Higashiomi City, Shiga Prefecture. It is the most popular mountain among the Suzuka Seven Mountains, where mountain boys and mountain girls come to climb all year round! One of the reasons for its popularity is that it is highly athletic and has many Instagrammable spots. The climbing route is clear and there is little chance of getting lost, making it a perfect mountain for first-time climbers! This time we will introduce the state of Mt.Gozaisho in winter!

Nakamichi Tozando front parking lot

Mt.Gozaisho has a variety of routes, from beginners to advanced climbers. This time we will aim for the summit of Mt.Gozaisho using the Nakamichi mountain trail route. This is the parking lot in front of Nakamichi Tozando. During the winter, SuzukaSkyline is closed to traffic near the Kamoshika Ohashi Bridge. The parking lot in front of Nakamichi Tozando can be accessed from the Yunoyama Onsen side.

Depart from parking lot

Leave the parking lot and head uphill. This is a two-lane road, so be careful of cars.

Arrival at trailhead

After walking about 50m from the parking lot, you will see the Nakamichi trailhead on your right. There is also a large signboard so you can see it at a glance! It takes about 3 hours to reach the summit from the trailhead.

Climbing start

Depending on the day, a considerable amount of snow accumulates on Mt.Gozaisho in winter, starting from the vicinity of the trailhead. When venturing into the mountains in winter, be sure to have stock and crampons ready.

3rd station

The Nakamichi trail is most physically demanding up to the 3rd station. It's a steep climb up to the third station, and the trail is covered with trees, so you can't see much of KomonoTown. Once you reach the 3rd station, you'll be able to see the strangely shaped rocks and the town, so do your best to climb up.

4th station

There are several strange-looking rocks on the Nakamichi trail, but the first one you'll see is Obare Rock at the 4th station. The sight of huge rocks lined up is a sight to behold.

5th station

This is the view from the 5th station. You can enjoy various views from the 5th station. If you look towards the neighboring Mt. Kamagatake, you can also see the red GozaishoRopeway. If you look on the other side, you can see a panoramic view of KomonoTown!

Jizo rock

Beyond the 5th station, you will find Jizo Rock, a famous spot on Mt.Gozaisho. The exquisite balance of these sandwiched rocks is amazing no matter how many times I see it. I think there are many people who climb up Mt. Gozaisho from the Naka Ascending Route to see Mt.Gozaisho Rock.

By the way, this Jizo rock is said to be a strange rock that will never fall, and is very popular among test takers.

 

6th station

The 6th station is the most important point on the Nakamichi mountain trail in winter. You will descend down a cliff of about 20m using a chain. Don't rush, get off slowly.

Spectacular view beyond the 6th station

A spectacular view point awaits you after passing the dangerous point! You can see the neighboring Mt. Kamagatake and the ropeway from between the valleys. Let's wave and greet the people on the ropeway.

7th station

As you reach the 7th station, the amount of snow increases rapidly. From the 7th station, if the weather is good, you can see the direction of Mt. Kunimi.

8th station

The 8th station is a small plaza with a wide view and is a perfect spot for taking photos. You can also photograph frost-covered trees from above. The 8th station is also a point where you can get off using a chain, so be especially careful when getting off.

9th station

When you reach the 9th station, you are almost to the top of the mountain! From around the 9th station, you can start to see more frost-covered trees.
