Mie prefecture's only swordsmith workshop tour & short sword making experience
Mie prefecture's only swordsmith workshop tour & short sword making experience
Deep in the mountains of Mie, in a place that feels like an unexplored region, lies Mie's only swordsmith workshop. In this program, we will visit Kenichiro Kakutani, a swordsmith who continues to forge swords alone deep in the mountains. Learn about the history of Japanese swords at an old folk house, and see the different shapes and distinctive blade patterns in your hands, and then watch Mr. Kakutani's sword forging work. Then, you will experience a process called ``quenching,'' which involves heating a small sword made of the same iron as Japanese swords with charcoal and quickly cooling it with water to create a blade pattern. This experience is completely private and is a valuable experience that will make you feel as if you were apprenticed to a swordsmith.
