A quiet shrine surrounded by nature, nicknamed "Oka-san" by locals!

Oka Hachiman Shrine was built by Minamoto no Yoritomo on the land of Shirakashi as the first in his plan to locate subsidiary shrines of Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine in Kamakura throughout the country, and the company name "Oka Hachiman Shrine" is an abbreviation indicating that it is a subsidiary shrine of Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine. is. It was planned to be built in Iga first and then all over the country, but after Yoritomo's death the construction plan was canceled and this Oka Hachiman Shrine was the first and last one to be built.
Since its founding, ``Yabusame'' has always been held on the grounds of the shrine, and now it is held on the Sunday around the 15th of April every year.

At Oka Hachimangu Shrine, there is still a stone statue of a guardian dog made from stone from Mikawa (Okazaki), which was donated by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1582 (Tensho 10) as a thank you for being rescued by Iga ninja during his crossing over Iga. Masu.

There is also a hall containing a life-sized wooden carved horse dedicated by Shigenori Nakagawa Jinbei, a native of Shirakashi who became the lord of Kameyama Castle at the young age of 37 during the time of Tokugawa Iemitsu. It is said that this wooden sacred horse was dedicated to Jinbei in the late Sengoku period as a token of gratitude for his advancement in life thanks to the fact that he learned spearmanship from Matabei Takada, a master spearman from Shirakashi, on the grounds of Oka Hachimangu Shrine.
