Hamabou is a tree of the mallow family that grows mainly along the coast and blooms yellow hibiscus-like flowers in summer. It grows in clusters near the mouth of the Aokawa River, and flowers bloom from July to August.
It is said that this plant was first planted as a landmark from the sea during the Edo period, when there was a port on the Aoi River, but the number of this plant has been decreasing recently. The Aokawa River is a class 2 river in Mie Prefecture that flows approximately in the middle of kumozu and Miwatari River, and is located on the north side of Heartful Mikumo.
