Higashidaiyodo Ogashira ritual
Higashidaiyodo Ogashira ritual

Date: Saturday, February 8, 2025

This is a lion dance held in the precincts of shrines and shrine parishioners to exorcise evil spirits and pray for good health. It is a Shinto ritual that has been performed in various places since ancient times.
The ceremony is performed mainly by the hereditary Kagura group, and first, the head performs the ``Shichi-okoshi'' dance at Satonaka Shrine, and then ``exorcises evil spirits'' at various locations in the town.
The head, who is burdened with the burden of disaster, performs the ritual of ``Hekkomeyai,'' in which he runs furiously and throws the disaster into the sea.
At night, near a bonfire that scorches the night sky, the head priest and the villagers perform a spectacular ``Takeyarai'' ritual, in which the head person jumps into the fire, and at the end performs an ``exorcism'' dance.
It was designated as a prefectural intangible folk cultural property on March 28, 1977 (S52).
