A large Shibunashigaya tree in the precincts of Takakura Shrine.
There is one among the bamboo bushes, the tree is about 20m tall, grows well, and produces a large amount of fruit every year.
As far back as the Edo period, many Kaya trees were planted in the Iga region in order to obtain Kaya oil, the best cooking oil.
The fruit itself was also edible, and it is said that in Iga and Kiso, a confectionery called ``Kaya Arare'' was made by sprinkling it with sugar.
The seeds are often used in Chinese medicine as Hijitsu, and the Kaya tree itself is also famous as a high-quality material and is used for things such as shogi boards.
It was designated as a national natural monument on July 25, 1932 (S7).
