A large ginkgo tree that is said to be 350 years old is located in the schoolyard of the former Shichiho district elementary school.
It is said that until the early Meiji period, it was planted on the grounds of Hosenji Temple, which used to be in this area.
Ohatsukicho is a variety of ginkgo that bears fruits on the leaves. It is an academically interesting variety, with a larger tree body and better appearance than other trees of the same species. At the peak of autumn leaves, the leaves turn a brilliant color and countless ginkgo trees are scattered around the area.
It was designated as a prefectural natural monument on January 22, 1936 (S11).
