The main image, which is said to be Kannon who came from the sea, is said to have been created during the Kamakura period.
It has long been famous as a Kannon that wards off bad luck, and before the war it was crowded with men and women who came to exorcise bad luck. Even now, the nearby Pilgrimage Hill reminds us of the bustle of those days.
