Introducing autumn festivals and events held throughout Mie Prefecture that you should visit at least once.

Lots of information on everything from popular festivals that are crowded with people every year, such as TsuCity City's Tsu Festival and MatsusakaCity 's Ujisato Festival, to traditional local festivals!

As the weather gets cooler, it's the perfect season to go out, so come and experience the unique local festivals held throughout Mie Prefecture!

Ujisato Festival (MatsusakaCity)

Ujisato Festival

The annual ``Musha Parade'' centered around Lord Gamo Ujisato begins with a marching ceremony at the National Historic Site of Matsuzaka Castle and continues to GojobanYashiki and samurai residences in the former Doshin Town. The large procession of 200 people, including samurai in armor, Ujisato's wife Fuyuhime, and a gun squad, is very impressive. It is crowded with many onlookers.

Niiname Festival [IseJingu] (IseCity)

When the Niiname Festival is held at the Jinka-den in the Imperial Palace, an imperial envoy is sent and a heihaku is offered to him.
At the shrine, the Amaterasu-Omikami no-gi is held to offer sacred food to Amaterasu Omikami and other deities, followed by the Hohei-no-gi where the Imperial envoy presents the emperor's heihaku. Niinamatsuri will continue to be held at all shrines and shrines until November 29th.

The 37th Tokaido Sekijuku Festival (KameyamaCity)

Go to Tokaido Sekijuku to see what it was like in the past.
This festival started in Sekijuku, which has flourished as an inn town since the Edo period (1603-1868) and was selected as a national Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in 1984 (Showa 59). The festival features a period procession and other events at the former Tokaido Sekijuku, where many townhouses from the Edo and Meiji periods still remain! You can enjoy the feeling of going back in time to the Edo period.

Ueno Tenjin Festival (IgaCity)

With over 400 years of tradition, it is Iga's largest festival that colors Iga Ueno's autumn season, and has been designated as a national important intangible folk cultural property. In November 2016, it was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Matsusaka Beef Festival (72nd Matsusaka Beef Beef Exhibition) (MatsusakaCity)

This once-yearly festival is packed with the charms of Matsusaka beef! At the festival's main event, the Matsusaka Beef Cattle Show, 50 head of "Specialty Matsusaka Beef" that have been carefully raised by master craftsmen and won preliminary rounds will be on display. Other specialties from the Matsusaka beef producing area will also be on sale. Keep an eye out for the winning bid for the "Specialty Matsusaka Beef" that won the first place award at the auction on the day!

Autumn Iseraku City (IseCity)

The event will be held around the square in front of Geku bus stop, about a 10-minute walk from the ticket gate of JR/ IseCity Station. IseCity event is held twice a year to discover the charm of Ise by displaying Ise's distinctive local products and crafts, and for the enjoyment of citizens and tourists alike.
In normal years, it is crowded with close to 100 shops. Please come and find something good and delicious.

Junenji Seven Lucky Gods Festival (KuwanaCity)

The Seven Lucky Gods gather in full force, and each shrine parishioner prays to them. Taishokoto and dance performances are held throughout the day on the grounds. The mochi that is thrown during the final mochi toss is called Shichifuku Mochi, and is said to bring good health and good fortune.

Autumn Kagura Festival [IseJingu Grand Shrine Naiku] (IseCity)

This event is held to express gratitude to the gods and to pray for the peace of the people, and includes Bugaku (traditional Japanese dance and music) and Shinen no Shinburi events. On the first day of the festival, Mikagura will be performed at Geku at 8:30 a.m. and Naiku at 10:00 a.m. in the respective kagura halls, and at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., bugaku will be performed on a special stage in the Naiku shrine garden. During this period, there will also be dedication ceremonies by famous families of various schools from all over Japan, such as Maiyayashi, Noh, and Nodate (outdoor tea-ceremony table). However, in case of rain, public performances will be held only at 11:00 a.m. on the Sanguden stage.

The 22nd Japanese Taiko Festival (IseCity)

Iga-Yaki pottery festival (IgaCity)

14 potteries in Iga will gather and sell approximately 140 types and 800 items for a limited time.

Hananoiwaya-jinjaShrine Autumn Festival (KumanoCity)

Hana-no-Iwaya is an ancient relic of worship of natural objects, with a 45-meter-tall gigantic rock as the object of worship. Arima Village in Kumano, where Izanami no Mikoto was buried, as described in the Nihon Shoki, is the name of this Hana-no-Iwaya, and the spring and autumn festival ``Tsuna-kake Shinji'' is a prefecture's intangible folk cultural property.
The ritual of tying a rope around the shrine grounds from the top of the giant rock that is the sacred object of the shrine is a sight to behold! Furthermore, at the Autumn Festival, ``Oshirasuhiki,'' a flower cart carrying a sacred white stone, is pulled, and there are dances along the way.

The 53rd Sohei Festival (Komonocho, KomonoTown)

The largest fire festival in the prefecture. A mikoshi weighing 600 kg is carried by men dressed in monk's costumes and paraded around 2 km through Yunoyama Onsen town, with torches blazing with tremendous flame.
On stage, Yunoyama Onsen is a grand feast of sound and fire, with talent shows, monk taiko performances, night stalls, launch shows, and more.

nago Whale Boat Event (SuzukaCity)

The Whale Boat Festival is a festival where various prayers are made to the gods, imitating the ancient whale fishing method of harpooning whales that had wandered into Ise Bay. Tennomaru, a float shaped like a whaling boat, is pulled around to the tune of whaling songs and drums, and at the climax of the song, young dancers (dancers) kill the papier-mâché whale on the tip of the shaft.

Udono Festival (Udono Shrine Annual Festival) (KihoTown)

Waraji Festival (ShimaCity)

Nabari Autumn Festival (NabariCity)

A grand autumn festival held at Hirao Urufushine Shrine.
On the eve of the festival, members of the four towns wear formal kimonos and carry lanterns in a procession, with a torch at the front, and there is also a lion dance offering.
