Katabe Ruins Katabeiseki

Japan's oldest ink writing, dated to the first half of the 4th century, was discovered on earthenware excavated here. The pottery was an unglazed pot called Hajiki, about 12 centimeters in diameter and about 7 centimeters in height, and the character for ``Ten'', which appeared to have been written in ink and brush, was found on the mouth. This pottery is on display at the MatsusakaCity Ureshino Archaeological Museum.
