Tohata Memorial Museum Tohata Kinenkan

The Higashihata Memorial Hall, created by Seiichi Higashihata, an international authority on agricultural economics, was designed by Kenzo Higashihata (the third son of the Higashihata family) and was built in the Showa era, based on the farmhouses (thatched roofs) of the Ise plains of the Meiji and Taisho eras. It was built in 1946 and donated to Mie Prefecture.
Approximately 9,000 specialized books were donated by Professors Seiichi Higashihata and Shiro and were housed there, and are currently stored at the Mie Prefectural Library. On the ceiling wall are four large cedar wooden ema (illustrating fruits, root vegetables, flowers, and livestock related to agriculture) designed by artist Kenkichi Sugimoto.
